The Volcano Barrier is a barrier 6ft high to stop the lava from pouring into nearby towns. Mount Makushin last erupted in 1995, is 1,632m high. In 1995, 1 house went on fire in Volcanoridge due to lava flying out of the volcano and landing on a house. There is no barrier on the South East as Eltop Hill (1,121m) also protects lava from getting past. The barrier was built in 1991.
